Today seems to be the day for our returning nesting birds. This morning I have seen a Tree Swallow sitting off the deck and then also this morning I have seen a pair of Bluebirds checking out our birdhouses. No guarantees but hopefully some nesting birds this year, and if we do then there’s chances for some good photos.

Well, our newest camera lens finally arrived the other day and yesterday Donna got to try her hand at some close-up work for the first time. We didn’t see much where we went but we did find these pussy willows. After a bit of trial and error, she was able to get a few nice shots. The new 70 – 300mm telephoto zoom / MACRO (close-up) lens will be a learning curve but we are looking forward to the end results as we incorporate more of the sometimes unnoticed part of our world into our photography.

Incredibly, at a totally different location from last spring, I ran into another muskrat! Plus a couple other things.

Finally, the snow around here is all gone except for a few lingering areas in the shaded woods. I’ll be looking to pack the camera gear to a couple of wildlife sanctuaries not too far from us to do some poking around looking for some willing subject matter. At these places you never know what might come along, and if you make multiple trips you’ll usually get a surprise or two. Last year I had a muskrat crawl out of the water a few feet from the observation blind I was in, and I was able to get some great close-ups!
